General FAQ's
Are there clinical trials that support the efficacy of Capillus?
Yes. Capillus Laser devices only use clinically proven technology.
For example, the Capillus Pro model was validated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, published in Dermatologic Surgery. The trial found that after 17 weeks of use, participants saw a 51% increase in hair count — with zero side effects reported.
There have also been many other clinical trials that support the efficacy of low-level laser technology for treatment of androgenetic alopecia.
Please note that the results mentioned above are specifically for the Capillus Pro model. There have been no clinical trials to date on the other Capillus models to be able to assert an exact percent of average increase of hair.
*See details of clinical trials at ClinicalTrials.gov
Can I use Capillus after a hair transplant?
Yes — and many doctors recommend it. Capillus helps protect and strengthen new grafts by stimulating healthy blood flow and cell activity. Always follow your surgeon’s guidance post-procedure.
Is Capillus safe and effective for women?
Yes. Unlike some prescription medications for hair loss, Capillus low-level laser therapy (LLLT) products are safe for use by women.
Capillus is a drug-free, FDA-cleared solution suitable for both men and women with androgenetic alopecia. Many top hair restoration clinics recommend Capillus to women experiencing thinning or shedding.
Why should I choose Capillus over other brands?
While some Capillus models may seem expensive at first glance, there's a reason for it — and it starts with what's inside the cap.
Many cheaper "laser" caps on the market don’t use lasers at all — they use red LEDs, which lack the power and precision to effectively penetrate the scalp. While LEDs may work for certain light therapies, they’re not effective for treating hair loss.
Capillus uses medical-grade laser diodes (650nm or 808nm, depending on the model) to deliver focused light deep into the scalp, where it can actually stimulate follicle activity and promote real hair regrowth.
Capillus was also the first laser cap cleared by the US FDA for treating androgenetic alopecia. Every Capillus device is designed, engineered, and assembled in our ISO13485-certified facility in the USA, ensuring the highest safety and quality standards.
When it comes to your hair, don’t settle for less than clinically proven, doctor-trusted technology.
Lasers vs LEDs — what’s the difference?
Capillus only uses medical-grade lasers — not LEDs. Here’s why that matters:
- Lasers penetrate deeper into the scalp for maximum follicle stimulation
- LEDs scatter light and don’t provide the same level of therapeutic intensity
- Laser light is collimated, coherent, and targeted — ideal for hair regrowth
Bottom line: Capillus delivers the light energy exactly where you need it — your follicles.
How long until I see results?
Most users begin seeing less shedding and fuller-looking hair around 3–6 months. The best results typically appear after consistent use for 6–12 months.
How often should I use the Capillus cap?
Just 6 minutes per day — it's that easy. Wear it while getting ready, watching TV, or checking emails. Consistency is key.
Which Capillus model is right for me?
The primary differences between models lies in bluetooth connectivity, power, laser diode number, coverage, and of course price.

Does it work for all types of hair loss?
Capillus is FDA-cleared for androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness), the most common type of hair loss affecting both men and women.
It is not designed for sudden hair loss, scarring alopecia, or hair loss due to medical conditions. That said, low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can still help stimulate follicle activity in many cases — but results may vary.
If you're unsure whether Capillus is right for your specific hair loss type, it's best to consult a dermatologist or hair restoration specialist.
Will I lose my results if I stop using Capillus?
Consistent use is key. Like brushing your teeth, laser therapy is a long-term commitment. Stopping treatment may allow hair loss to resume over time.
Product Usage & Troubleshooting
My cap won’t turn on at all. What might be the reason?
Below are some quick troubleshooting tips if your device is not turning on:
- Safety Sensor: There is a sensor in the cap that only allows light to be emitted when the cap is on your head.
- Secure Connection: Check connection between cap and battery pack.
- Battery Level: Check your battery charge level or charge the battery.
If your battery pack is not turning on, review the following:
- Ensure that you are not holding the “on” button down too long. Just press and hold on the button to turn the cap on.
- Make sure your battery is charged. You should fully charge the battery overnight before first use.
Please refer to pages 6, 8, and 9 of your manual for further information.
I’m holding the cap and pressing the power button but the cap doesn’t turn on. Why?
There is a sensor on the inside of the device that only allows light to be emitted when the cap is on the head. As an eye-safety precaution, if the device is not on your head when you turn it on, the lasers will not stay on. When you place the cap on your head, the sensors are triggered, and the laser dome will turn on. Please refer to page 6 of your manual.
Should your hair be washed or free of hairspray or other products while using the Capillus cap?
You may use your Capillus cap if you have used moderate amounts of hairspray on your hair. For best results, we recommend using the Capillus cap with clean and dry hair. Avoiding excessive styling products when using your cap will ensure the interior silicone lining stays clean. If you need to clean the cap, please view 'Cleaning Your Device' below.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
If it is necessary to clean the surfaces of your Capillus® laser therapy cap, please follow these instructions. Note: the Capillus® laser therapy cap has no parts that can be serviced by the user. If service is required, contact Capillus, LLC.
DISCONNECT ALL CABLES ON THE CAPILLUS® LASER THERAPY CAP BEFORE CLEANING
To clean the Capillus® laser therapy cap, gently wipe the inner surface of the laser device with an alcohol wipe or a water-moistened cloth. Do not use excessive pressure or force as this may damage the unit.
DO NOT use acetone or any other solvents on any part of the device. Acetone and other solvents will damage the unit and void the warranty.
If you stop using the Capillus cap after seeing results, will the new hair fall out?
Capillus laser therapy is intended to be used indefinitely unless otherwise prescribed by a physician. It is important to continue using your Capillus cap, even once you have reached desired hair growth, to assure you do not lose results and revert back to hair loss again.
Do I need to use the Capillus cap at the same time every day, and if so, why?
No, Capillus does not need to be worn at the same time every day. However, using your Capillus consistently may lead to better results.
Can I use Capillus on my face?
Capillus does not recommend use of our hair regrowth cap on the face due to eye safety concerns. Laser light (even at low-level wavelengths) may pose a danger to the eyes. To control the risk of injury, various specifications define “classes” of laser depending on their power and characteristics. Capillus laser therapy caps are class 3R lasers as defined by IEC 60825 regulation, which addresses laser safety internationally.
Avoid direct eye exposure to lasers.
Sunglasses do not protect eyes from laser radiation.
Can the cap be used by myself and another family member?
Capillus laser devices are intended and warranted for individual use of 6-minute sessions once a day. If a device is used outside of warranty and your household uses the device for more than one 6-minute daily session, please allow for a 10-minute interruption of usage to maintain battery health.
Note: Please understand that if the battery is only lasting a few days, it is caused by the amount of people using the device.
Can you use the laser cap with wet or damp hair?
We recommend using the Capillus Laser Cap with clean and dry hair for best results. Water is a light "bender" and "reflector"; the object of the treatment is to get the light directly to the scalp.
While we are not aware of any literature regarding the use of laser therapy while hair is wet or damp; for best results, we recommend using the cap on a clean and dry scalp.
How tight or loose is the cap supposed to fit?
Ideally the lasers should be 2cm away from the scalp for optimal therapy. If the cap is resting loosely on your head that is perfectly okay. The fit does not have to be tight but the closer the lasers are to your scalp, the better. If there is a bit of space on the sides of your head that is alright as well.
Our regular size caps fit most, with a head circumference of up to 24". If your head circumference is greater than 24" inches, please contact the Capillus customer care team to request a larger size.
Charging & Best Practices
Although the battery does have some charge initially, to optimize battery life and assure sufficient charge for use, we recommend charging the pack for a full 24 hours before first use.
After the initial charge, please charge the battery pack only when final light is blinking.
Ensure your cap is unplugged before operating.
Please refer to page 6 of your manual.
